First time parents Stevie Hodgson-Kirtley and Stephen Townend’s son Connor Jake made his way into the world in the back of a Ford Focus.

He was born by the roadside in Baildon as the couple were being driven to Bradford Royal Infirmary by Stevie’s stepfather Shane Hodgson after she suddenly went into labour. Stephen, 20, of Baildon, said: We had just got to Baildon Bridge and Stevie was shouting ‘it’s here, it’s coming!’ “So we pulled over and we had a little check and the baby’s head was out. I rang the hospital again and one of the paramedics talked us through the delivery. The whole labour only lasted three hours. I was sweating like mad, really panicking and Stevie just kept saying ‘It’s here. It’s here’.”

Maxine Hodgson, 20-year-old Stevie’s mum, was on hand to help deliver Connor in the back of the car. Rather than wait for an ambulance, Mr Hodgson then drove to the hospital where mother and son were checked over before being allowed home.
