A multi-million-pound hotel development is set to create 70 jobs in the city centre.

Budget hotel chain Premier Inn will move into the former Yorkshire Water offices at Broadacre House in Vicar Lane, it has been announced.

The ten-storey tower block will undergo a £5 million refurbishment into a 118-bed hotel before opening for business by the end of November.

Kevin Murray, acquisition manager (north) for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, which owns the hotel chain, said: “Premier Inn is the biggest budget hotel chain in the UK today and we are on a mission to bring great quality rooms and great value to even more locations across the country. Investing in Bradford is a superb opportunity for us.

“It means regenerating an important city centre site and transforming it into an attractive hotel. It also means Whitbread creating 70 new jobs as we build our future in the city.”

Councillor David Green, the Council’s executive member for regeneration and the economy, welcomed the development. He said: “I think it demonstrates particularly that the hotel industry has identified that Bradford is a place where they can do business. Clearly we welcome the opportunity to create jobs for local people in terms of the building and when it opens. That has to be good news for the city in terms of employment.
