  • RAF Association Bradford: The secretary informs me that he has sent out invitations to all associations inviting them to St Chad's for the annual Battle of Britain Service followed by buffet in the Church Hall. Unfortunately he added the wrong date. It will be on Sunday, September 17, at 13.45hrs (not the 15th).
  • Lancastria: This World War Two Transport ship has won protection from the French Government. More than 3,000 Britons died when the ship was sunk by aircraft on June 17, 1940. Many civilian refugees were lost. Diving on the wreck at the mouth of the Loire off the Pointe de St Gildas was becoming intrusive and damaging and members of the survivors in the "Lancastria Association" reported this to the authorities. The ship lies in French waters and their Government has responded by providing the wreck with protection signed by the Maritime Prefect so it's forbidden for divers.
  • Veterans Badge: The dates have been extended. Anyone who served up to December 1959 can now apply. Ring 0800 169 2277 with your service details.
