If you’ve never considered living in an apartment, this superb three-bedroom conversion on Idle Road, Eccleshill, Bradford, is likely to change your mind.

The apartment is likely to appeal to someone wanting something a little out of the ordinary and with 1,800 square feet to call it spacious would be an understatement.

This almost ‘loft style’ luxury apartment has been thoughtfully and tastefully created in recent years by the present owners, John and Gillian Lidguard.

“My wife owned the three-piece-suite showroom which was situated on both floors of what had originally been four terraced cottages,” says John.

“We decided that we didn’t need both floors and sold our house in Pudsey and converted the upstairs to live in.”

“During the conversion back to a residential property in 2005 we discovered a whole galaxy of natural stone walls and timber roof beams and decided to uncover these hidden treasures.

“Naturally, the budget went out of the window and also the timescale and I think the whole job took about eight months.”

The end result is a stunning home, with all the modern conveniences of central heating, double-glazing, burglar alarm and smoke detectors, together with bucketfuls of character.

The entrance vestibule leads to a wide staircase at the top of which is an impressive lounge with a Juliet balcony, two roof lights and a laminate floor. The main features of the room are undoubtedly the exposed beams, roof trusses, stone walls and a spiral staircase to the mezzanine.

“This is our favourite part of the apartment, but at 32ft by 16ft it’s a bit too much space for just the two of us,” says John.

A superb range of contemporary units sets the standard in the kitchen, which has a tile-style floor, downlights and part-tiled walls. There’s a built-in oven and halogen hob, stainless steel splashback and cooker hood, granite-style worktops, integrated fridge-freezer and extractor fan.

There’s also a very useful utility room with a stainless steel sink unit and work surface, laminate floor and plumbing for an automatic washing machine.

The master bedroom, with a laminate floor, has a very contemporary feel with its range of fitted furniture, including wardrobes and chests of drawers, while the fully-tiled en-suite shower room has a white suite with a double shower.

The second bedroom also has fitted wardrobes, laminate floor and an en-suite shower room which mirrors the en-suite to the master bedroom.

The third bedroom, with its exposed stone alcoves and downlighters, is currently used as a games room, with plenty of space for a pool table.

With bright, white tiles accented in blues to the floor and walls, the family bathroom is a luxurious space with spa bath, bidet, wc, hand basin, downlights and a chrome ladder towel rail.

Around 30 feet in length, the mezzanine, with roof lights and laminate floor, currently offers an occasional bedroom and study area, but subject to building regulations could be turned into further rooms. Outside there is a block-paved driveway with room for several cars and a double garage.

“Now that Gillian is retiring, we have let the downstairs showroom to Daniel Fitzpatrick who manufactures bespoke kitchen and bedroom furniture,” says John.

“We’ve loved living here but have decided it’s time to downsize from this massive apartment.”
