A Christmas fundraising event, cancelled because of icy conditions, has been rescheduled.

The Reindeer Stampede in Roberts Park, Saltaire, will now take place on Sunday, January 9.

The event has been organised by Yeadon-based national charity Epilepsy Action and is a 5k fun run to raise funds to support almost half a million people affected by epilepsy in the UK.

It was supposed to take place on December 12 but was cancelled due to safety concerns.

More than 100 ‘reindeer’ are expected to take part in the run and people can still enter up until January 5 or sign up on the day.

It is open to anyone aged eight and upwards and runners will be encouraged to don reindeer antlers to take part. Children under eight can also take part in their very own mini reindeer stampede.

Philippa Cartwright, fundraising events manager at Epilepsy Action, said: “We are really pleased the event is still going ahead and look forward to seeing as many people as possible take part.

“The event is suitable for all ages and abilities and participants can run, walk or jog the course, so it will be a great day out for the whole family.

“It also provides a great opportunity for runners training for long distance running events to get some practice in early in the New Year. The money raised at this event will make a huge difference to the lives of people affected by epilepsy.”

Entry costs £10 for adults and £5 for children under 15. Reindeer antlers can be bought from Epilepsy Action for £2.50.

All finishers will receive a medal and mince pie as they cross the finish line. For more information or to sign up, visit epilepsy.org.uk/reindeer stampede or contact the events team on (0113) 210 8800.
