A graduate adopted at birth is planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to help children’s charity Baranardo’s.
Carmel Porter, a former pupil of Ilkley’s Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, will climb the 6,000m summit, Africa’s highest peak, at the end of this month.
The 22-year-old, who grew up in Addingham, recently completed a history degree at Cardiff University. She said: “Barnardo’s is very close to my heart. As both my sister and I are adopted, I understand first hand the great support Barnardo’s provides to vulnerable children.”
