A Wilsden woman who runs a luncheon club for her village’s older residents received an MBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace yesterday.
Val Smith, 53,was recognised with the award for her work within her community.
When her accolade was announced in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in June, she said: “It’s very special, I didn’t think people like me would get things like this.”
She runs an after-school club for Wilsden Primary School children, which operates in the village hall, and the luncheon club meets at the same venue.
