A drama-documentary charting the troubled lives of Bradford playwright Andrea Dunbar and her daughter was screened in the city for the first time last night.
The Arbor, filmed on the Buttershaw estate where she lived, blends excerpts from Andrea’s first play, The Arbor, with actors lip-synching to audio interviews with her relatives, friends and neighbours.
Andrea died aged 29 in 1990, leaving ten-year-old daughter Lorraine.
The film catches up with Lorraine in the present day, also aged 29, ostracised from her mother’s family and in prison undergoing rehab.
It was screened to a Bradford audience at the National Media Museum following its sell-out premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.
A blue plaque on the wall of the house where Andrea lived was also unveiled today in a ceremony in Butershaw with members of her family and actors who took leading roles in the docu-drama.
