Bradford will welcome a number of VIPs tomorrow as 300 business people from across the region seek to raise money for flood-ravaged Pakistan.

Guests of honour at the night-time event – hosted by HSBC, the Hilton Hotel and Lahore Cafe Bar – are the co-chairman of the Conservative Party Baroness Warsi and world champion boxer Amir Khan.

Bombay Stores, Kashmir Crown Bakeries, Narangs Wholesalers and Day to Day Cash and Carry have also pledged to sponsor the occasion.

Other high profile figures who will be there on the night include University of Bradford Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark Cleary, who will be delivering a message on behalf of its Chancellor, former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan.

TV presenter Christa Ackroyd will compere the evening’s entertainment which features live music, guest speakers, a charity auction and raffle prize draw.

Asif Khan, area commercial manager at HSBC, said: “With the money raised, I’m sure we will make a difference to the lives of those suffering this terrible ordeal in Pakistan.”

Asghar Ali, managing director of Lahore Cafe Bar, said: “We are proud to support HSBC in their endeavours to raise £50,000 for this extremely worthwhile cause.

“With around 20 per cent of Pakistan still under water, we’re keen to make sure this terrible event doesn’t slip off the wider public’s radar and that the fundraising drive continues at pace.”

All funds raised on the night will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) which has already co-ordinated relief efforts for more than 800,000 Pakistani people using UK charitable donations of £40 million plus.
