Police investigating the tragic double death of a Bradford solicitor and her husband in a motorcycle accident are urging witnesses to come forward.

Helen Slater, 37, and husband Dean, 40, of Thornton, were killed when they were thrown from their grey Yamaha R1 bike as it collided with a green Vauxhall Vectra.

The couple were travelling in a group of six motorcycles when the tragedy happened on the slip road of the A64 eastbound from the A167 near Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, at around 7.30pm on Wednesday, August 25.

Mr Slater was riding and his wife was pillion passenger.

Although a number of witnesses have come forward, several others, who may have vital information, have not.

Traffic Sergeant Julian Pearson, of North Yorkshire Police, who is leading the investigation, said: “We have identified more people who are potential witnesses and have not yet come forward.

“I am keen to trace two pedestrians who were walking on the A659 footpath from Boston Spa towards the A1 between 7pm and 7.25pm on the evening of the collision.

“They will have witnessed a group of motorcycles passing them, as will the drivers of a dark-coloured Land Rover Discovery and an Audi A4 estate, which had travelled from the A1 roundabout onto the A659.

“It is imperative these people get in touch with the police as they could greatly assist with our inquiries.”

The other motorcycles were three Yamaha R1s, a black Honda CBR600 and a yellow Honda CBR1000.

They had travelled from Bingley to Shipley on the A650, past Leeds-Bradford Airport at Yeadon, through Arthington on the A658 to Harewood, along the A61 to Collingham, through Boston Spa to Tadcaster.

Anyone who witnessed the motorcycle group, or has any information about the accident, should contact TS Pearson, on 0845 6060247, quoting reference number 12100145983.
