Tireless volunteer Clarice Barrett hasn’t let age stand in the way of putting something back into the community.

The hard-working great grandmother, who turns 90 next week, has been helping out at a Bradford charity shop for the past 20 years.

Clarice, of Baildon, worked for English Electric and in the textile industry before retiring. Not one to sit still for long, she started volunteering at the Age Concern shop on Sunbridge Road, in Bradford city centre, and has now clocked up two decades there.

“She must be the oldest volunteer in Bradford,” said Clarice’s son, Brian Barrett. “She loves it. She meets new people all the time and enjoys working in the shop and helping to sort out the donated items.

“She’s not one to spend her retirement sitting about. She has four grandchildren and several great grandchildren and she likes to keep busy.”
