A 16-year-old boy accused of a murderous knife attack in a dark alley told a jury he had no weapon with him that night.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said the 15-year-old he allegedly stabbed was unhurt when he last saw him.

The teenager, from the Manningham area of Bradford, denies attempted murder, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and having an offensive weapon.

He is alleged to have carried out a “sustained, ferocious, attack” with a kitchen knife on his younger friend after they fell out over missing drugs money.

The 15-year-old told the jury at Bradford Crown Court the defendant zipped up a balaclava mask and repeatedly lunged at him with the knife.

He said he thrust the weapon into his face, neck and chest in a deserted alley off Mornington Villas, Manningham, just before 10pm.

He said his attacker told him: “It’s not me. It’s somebody else stabbing you.” “He looked crazy,” the 15-year-old told the jury.

The Crown says the attack was so vicious that the intention was to kill.

Yesterday, the 16-year-old told the jury he and his friend had arranged to smoke cannabis.

He lost £10 and was unable to pay a dealer for the drug.

The boy denied wearing a zip-up masked garment and having a knife with him at any time that night.

He said his friend swore at him after he lost the drugs money.

He walked off and that was the last he saw of him that night.

The boy told the jury he did not know how a smear of his alleged victim’s blood got on to the fridge at his home.

He said he cut his hand on a fence and could have touched the 15-year-old’s blood while searching for his phone in the alley.

The jury was expected to retire today to consider its verdicts.
