A musician who was looking to start a new chapter in his life playing with a band has died while fishing in Cornwall.

Guy Hotham's body was recovered from the sea off Porth Towan on Friday morning. He had been on holiday with his mother and father, Paul and Marie.

Mr Hotham, 32, a Leeds College of Music graduate who had recently moved from London to Hebden Bridge, was last seen about 8pm on Thursday fishing from rocks.

His body was found the following morning by coastguards.

Police say his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Hotham's 34-year-old brother, John, who works in IT, and John's wife Kate, 30, a human resources officer, were at the family home in Eastgate, Bramhope, yesterday waiting for more news. Mr and Mrs Hotham, who are in their 60s, were due home yesterday afternoon.

John said: "Guy had moved back from London, where he had been for five years working as a special needs teacher, and was looking forward to a new life and had joined a new band called Tetchi based in Hebden Bridge.

"Music was everything to him. He had a degree from the Leeds College of Music where he had studied guitar.

"He loved the instrument and could play both lead and bass - he was playing bass with the new band.

"He had decided London wasn't for him.

"He sold his home and had moved back to Yorkshire to be near his family and friends. He wanted the more relaxed lifestyle.

"He was a person who was not concerned about material things - it was his music that kept him going," said John.

He said the band had been made aware of what had happened and they were very upset.

They had already played a number of gigs together, released records on a Todmorden-based label called Clone Records and played at the Glastonbury festival in 2005. They were also known at local venues such as The Love Apple in Bradford.

His other band, Fightclub, had supplied a song for a movie called The Keeper, which starred Dennis Hopper, but had been in hiatus since January 2006.

He attended St Mary's School in Menston before going on to Leeds Music College.

John said that Guy had always enjoyed angling and new exactly what he was doing: "He loved the outdoors and was a great swimmer."
