It’s been a tough year to be a Bulls fan.

Missing out on the Super League play-offs for the first time last season was bad enough; but the misery of their worst losing run in modern history was far worse.

Things, as they say, can only get better.

And this week’s grand announcement to slash ticket prices is one huge step in the right direction.

We live in tough economic times and professional sport has to accept that or risk losing their audience for good.

Bradford City took the gamble in 2007 with their ground-breaking season-ticket initiative. It has paid off handsomely.

All right, results on the field may not have improved – yet – but Valley Parade regularly holds crowds of 10,000-12,000 to watch bottom-division football which would have been unheard of otherwise.

Peter Hood is to be congratulated for going down the same cut-price route.

Like City did, the Bulls launched their pledge scheme when, results wise, they are at their lowest ebb.

Attendances have dipped as the team has struggled and strong action was needed to reverse that.

The initial response to their grand plan – with pledge numbers around halfway to the 10,000 target already – has been an overwhelming success. And suddenly fans want to go to Odsal again.

There is not a lot to look back on in 2010. But 2011 cannot come soon enough.
