A team of Bradford NHS workers were today flying out to Pakistan to help victims of the flooding.

Dr Muhammed Iqbal, of Kensington Street Health Centre in Girlington, Dr Akram Khan, of Barkerend Health Centre, Sabiya Khan, workforce development facilitator at NHS Bradford and Airedale, Roxanna Rashid, community staff nurse with Bradford and Airedale Community Health Services (BACHS), Hana Mandalia, community nurse with BACHS and Samia Hanif, practice nurse at Kensington Health Centre, are heading for the small town of Dadu in the Sindh region. There they will provide treatment for those affected by the floods.

Dr Iqbal and Dr Khan said they expected to be treating conditions such as diarrhoea and vomiting, chest infections and skin disorders, such as scabies.

The team have all funded their own costs and a week-long fundraising campaign, including an appeal in the Telegraph & Argus, has seen them raise almost £15,000.

It will be used to buy food, sanitation items and water purification tablets.

Sabiya Khan said: “I am touched how people have been generous. It is something that has brought people together.”
