A professional extreme sports show will be holding stunt demonstrations as part of the entertainment organised for the Sky Ride Bradford.

The event, organised by Sky in partnership with British Cycling and Bradford Council, will give thousands of cyclists of all ages and abilities the chance to enjoy traffic-free city centre roads on Sunday.

Team Extreme will be holding stunt demonstrations at Peel Park at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm, with coaching workshops at noon, 1.30pm and 3pm.

Face painting, bouncy castles and a mobile climbing tower have been planned to entertain young children, while older children can have a go at British Cycling’s exciting entry-level programme Go-Ride Racing, which offers local competition for novice cyclists under the age of 16.

Visitors will also be able to try BMX on the track with the Bradford BMX Bandits.

Councillor the Reverend Paul Flowers, the Council’s portfolio holder for culture, tourism and sport, said: “This Sky Ride event is the only event of its kind in Yorkshire.

“Not only does it give cyclists of all ages and abilities the opportunity to take part in a free mass participation event, but families can also enjoy a great day out with all the entertainment we have to offer.”

Sky Ride participants will be stirred into action by music from the Sky Ride stage, including the soul and rhythm and blues band Stax Mafia, rock ‘n’ roll band Liquid Cooled and folk rock band Hall Brothers, featuring Michelle Plum, formerly of Chumbawumba.

Young and old alike should also be fascinated by the “wacky bikes” being used by volunteers from Bradford cycling group Crank It Up Cycling for All, while vintage and classic bicycles will be on show from Bygone Bikes.

Sky Ride Bradford is one of 12 Sky Ride events taking place across the UK this summer.

The 7km route will be open to everyone at 11.30am and will run from Peel Park, along Bolton Road to Church Bank in Little Germany and then loop back to the park.

A series of Sky Ride local events will also be taking place with trained cycle leaders from British Cycling guiding small groups on routes in and around Bradford every Sunday until the end of October.
