A bodyguard who was tragically killed in a plane crash in the mountains of Afghanistan is to be buried in Bingley next to his mother.

Family and friends of former Coldstream Guard Daniel Saville, 41, will say their farewell at Bingley All Saints Parish Church on Thursday.

A close friend from his Army days, Adam Beresford, will play the Last Post as Mr Saville is laid to rest next to his mum, Sue Saville, who died five years ago of cancer, aged 58. As well as leaving two sisters, Mr Saville also leaves his grandmother Marjorie Cochrane, 88.

During the ceremony, mourners will also remember the other 40 victims on the Pamir Airways flight in May, including two other Britons, Dave Taylor and Chris Carter.

Mr Saville’s family has requested family flowers only although floral tributes are expected from some of his friends who will not be able to be there. His burial will be at 2pm.

His sister, Rebecca Saville, who lives at Clayton Heights, Bradford, said a collection in his memory would go to Help For Heroes.

Mr Saville, known as Jimmy, grew up in Wilsden.

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned by Bradford Coroner Roger Whittaker this week.

After Mr Saville’s burial, a celebration of his life will continue at Bradford & Bingley Rugby Club in Wagon Lane.

Miss Saville said the family had been able to go ahead with the funeral after the Foreign and Commonwealth Office employed a forensic team to speed up the inquest. She also paid tribute to Bradford Coroner’s officer Tony Thornton, who had “worked tirelessly”.

A family statement paying tribute to Mr Saville said: “We are very proud that he dedicated his life to protecting people and serving his country.”
