Police have warned that they could seize the cars of drivers who are blighting a popular Bingley beauty spot.

Officers have stepped up patrols on the St Ives estate to break up groups of young people who are travelling there from outside the area to drive dangerously, drink and play loud music.

A 19-year-old Pudsey man caught wheel-spinning his vehicle has been given a warning notice by officers and told his vehicle would be seized if he continued to cause problems.

Inspector Andy Croasdale, of the Bingley and Worth Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “In response to concerns raised by local residents, we have increased our activity in the St Ives estate. Catching drivers behaving anti-socially requires a degree of perseverance and so we are pleased to report this success.

“By using this legislation, we aim to discourage all those who may consider abusing this beauty spot in this manner, to ensure it remains safe and pleasant for the rest. We do listen to residents’ priorities and will be keeping an increased focus on this area over the coming weeks. Anyone tempted to come to the area to behave anti-socially with a vehicle can fully expect to have it taken from them.”
