Philip Ferriby grows as many varieties of vegetables and fruit as you’ll see in a shop – yet he doesn’t have a garden or allotment.
The engineer, of New Works Road, Low Moor, Bradford, has filled the small yard behind his terraced home with pots of all sizes in which he grows cabbages, cauliflowers, courgettes, potatoes, onions and many other vegetables.
He even harvests fruit from miniature peach, nectarine and apricot trees.
“They are all fruiting at the moment,” he said. “I grow tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, chillies and peppers. There are so many foods we never need to buy.
“It shows that you don’t need a garden or allotment to grow your own. All you need are plant pots and a bit of compost and away you go.
“It is very satisfying. I grow so much I can give some to my neighbours too.”
