Good news from digital TV technology company Pace plc at Saltaire continues.

The world’s number one set-top box maker announced a £300 million deal to buy a leading US residential broadband systems provider.

Pace, based at Salts Mill, has continued its relentless growth, unveiling a 46 per cent increase in pre-tax profits in the six months to June 30. These grew to £45.4m compared with £31m in 2009.

Seabrook Crisps managing director John Tague has revealed ambitious expansion plans, revealing its intention to build a second factory within the next five years. Although this is likely to be in the Midlands or the South East, it will enable the Bradford firm to maintain its momentum.

Confirmation that Weidenhammer Packaging is investing £5m in a new factory off Halifax Road at Buttershaw, that will secure local jobs, was excellent news. It follows an 18-month search for a site, which at one point raised the possibility of the firm moving away.

It is a positive outcome to a potentially negative story and a fitting end to the career of former managing director Mike Ridgway, who has retired after 42 years with the business.

Three cheers also for the Zouk Asian restaurant business which is to invest £2m to open its third outlet in Liverpool, with others in London’s West End and in Harrogate also on the cards. The planned expansion of the original Zouk tea bar and grill in Leeds Road is further proof that Bradford business is alive and kicking.
