A husband and wife who have proved that love really does conquer all have won a nationwide search to find the UK’s most romantic couple.

Debs and Martin Jeffery’s heartwarming story of love triumphing over adversity has led to them becoming the faces of a new jewellery range.

The couple, who live in Scott Lane West, Riddlesden, Keighley, have also scooped £250 in vouchers from Herbert Brown.

The judges were moved by their unwavering support for each other through difficult times.

Martin, 40, a software engineer, and Debs, 38, a dental hygienist, have been together for ten years after meeting in a Bingley nightclub.

“Martin had lost his first wife after a long illness and he was visiting his parents in Crossflatts.

He was persuaded to go out to Porky’s,” said Debs.

“I was there as well and I hadn’t really wanted to go. I was getting over a relationship and had lost all my confidence and was feeling vulnerable.

“I think fate played a big part in bringing us together.”

Martin’s support also helped Debs to overcome the loss of her father.

The couple were eventually married in November 2000 in Riddlesden Parish Church and Debs went on to adopt Martin’s son Harry, now a pupil at Bingley Grammar School.

Debs said of the competition: “We saw an advert in the Keighley News (the Telegraph & Argus’s sister paper) and entered. I think the jewellers was also chuffed because the company was founded in Leeds and they were looking for a Yorkshire couple. Although we felt our relationship was truly special, I never expected to win a competition.”

Herbert Brown’s Leona Cobb said: “Debs and Martin are a true fairytale couple – their moving story left the judges in no doubt that they should be awarded the prize and I am delighted they are the face of our Fairytale Diamonds range.”

The company, which has 37 stores, is celebrating 170 years this year.
