Bradford’s young film-makers had their masterpieces scrutinised and celebrated during an Oscars-style showdown at the National Media Museum.

Teams of children from 18 primary schools across the district produced their own digital animation films, photo-stories and movies as part of an annual competition run by school support services firm Education Bradford.

The red carpet was rolled out for the black tie ceremony yesterday when school staff and parents voted for the winners in three categories and three age groups using an interactive keypad.

Children from All Saints’ Primary School in Ilkley won the digital animation category for Years Three and Four pupils with their animated movie called Rainforest Animals.

Corinne Martin, a computer technician at the school, said: “They made the film during the school’s Arts Week which this year had the theme of South America. They put in a lot of hard work and did a fabulous job.”

James Atkin, a member of the band EMF which had a chart hit with track ‘Unbelievable’ in 1990, presented the Special Award to seven-year-old Ibrahim Ahmed of St Andrew’s Church of England Primary School, Keighley.

Year Two teacher, Romana Tariq, said he had produced a photo-story telling the tale of 'Sensational Sam' who saved children from a blazing volcano using a purple aeroplane.

Other winning schools included: Bankfoot, Brackenhill, Burley Oaks, Crossley Hall and Glenaire Primary Schools.

Paul Scott, primary ICT consultant for Education Bradford, said: “The standard of entries has been excellent. The children are very confident with the software and are using it to express themselves in new and exciting ways.”
