Has a local girl band got the ‘over all’ X-Factor?

The glam girls who call themselves The Mechanics have got through auditions to perform in front of Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and other celebrity judges this weekend.

They have all been pupils of Stage ’84 at Idle – and two of them are sisters.

Sophie and Bethany Wysoczanski live in Calverley and Heather Hinchliffe lives in Eldwick.

Lead singer Sophie said: “We can’t wait to get on that stage. We’re a little nervous about what Simon might say but we’re going to do our best to wow him and the other judges.”

For moral support the girls are taking a coachload of youngsters from the performing academy they co-run.

“It’ll be fantastic to have them there with us and of course they’re hoping they might get on telly too!”

Earlier this year Sophie appeared on BBC 1’s Over the Rainbow but she was voted out after making the final 50.

The band took its name from The Mechanics Hall in Calverley where the sisters’ academy is run from. Sophie said: “Mum suggested The Mechanics. She used to be caretaker there and we’d put on shows there for charity when we were younger.’’ The girls wear overalls and carry a toolbox – full of make-up of course!
