A 20-year-old man who led police on two car chases within two weeks has been locked up for 15 months and banned from driving for three years.

Khuram Rehmani hit another vehicle the first time and crashed into a shop the second, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Rehmani, of Fairfield Road, Manningham, Bradford, pleaded guilty to two offences of dangerous driving. He also admitted driving without insurance or a licence on both occasions.

Judge John Potter told him: “You are someone who has little regard for others while you are behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.”

Prosecutor Caroline Shields said police saw Rehmani speed off in a Toyota Starlet in Marborough Road, Mann-ingham, at 10.35am on January 26. He was on the wrong side of the road and jumped a red light.

Rehmani struck another vehicle, spun 180 degrees and accelerated off up Carlisle Road.

Miss Shields said he overtook vehicles on the wrong side of the road before the police lost sight of him.

He was caught after a chase on foot when officers found the damaged vehicle abandoned in Walker Drive.

On police bail, Rehmani again drove dangerously on February 9. A DVD was played in the courtroom of him leading officers on a pursuit lasting more than three miles in a Ford Mondeo.

Rehmani drove over pavements and squeezed past oncoming vehicles round the streets of Manningham.

He hit a shop front and was caught after fleeing on foot.

Rehmani was on licence after he was locked up for two years in July 2008 for drug dealing, the court heard. His barrister, Kathryn Walsh, said he deserved credit for his guilty pleas. He accepted that his behaviour was unacceptable.

Judge Potter said Rehmani caused danger to other road users and both offences crossed the custody threshold.
