Thousands of people flocked to galas across the district as the warm weather held out for another weekend.

Vintage cars and football mascots provided some of the entertainment at Wrose Carnival on Saturday.

The City Gent and Billy Bantam were on hand to entertain the hundreds of visitors to the carnival, which also featured several funfair rides and a bonny baby contest.

Michael Masleczko, secretary of the Wrose Carnival committee, said he believed a record number of people turned up to the event. He said: “It was absolutely wonderful – it was obviously a brilliant day weatherwise and it looked like we had record crowds there. All the stall-holders were really shocked by the numbers that turned out.

“It’s hard to estimate how many were actually there but Wrose Recreation Field was full.”

Meanwhile, coaching staff from Bradford Bulls showed off fun skills and rugby tips at Holme Wood Gala on Saturday.

The event, supported by Bradford Council, featured live music, dancing, funfair games and activities for youngsters.

There was also a special performance from local primary schools and Tong High School.

In Denholme, new gates were officially opened at the west entrance to Foster Park as part of the Denholme Gala.

Denholme Town Council had been working in partnership with the Community Contact Point and Environment Action Group to have the new gates installed.

It was made possible by the Government’s Justice Seen, Justice Done fund and the town council.

The gala on Saturday also featured family races, a magician, pole jousting, dunking stool and a mascot football match.

Pat Fleming, member of the Denholme Gala committee, said: “It went very well. There was quite a big turnout, because the weather wasn’t too bad, and we got plenty of stalls. We had some new attractions this year, one was a dunking stool and I think they raised a lot of money with that.”

Floats, fancy dress, decorated prams and bikes took part in a procession for Oakworth Gala on Saturday.

Organised by the Committee of Oakworth Village Society, the event featured stalls and entertainment as well as children’s race.

The annual village four-mile run was also held as part of the event.

The crowning of Lindsey Lyness as Keighley Gala queen kicked off the town’s annual extravaganza, as she was attended by junior queen Emily Coleman, princess Ragen Hansen, rosebud Holly Beck and pageboy Kian Verity. They formed part of the parade which set off from Goulbourne Street and made its way to Victoria Park, where there were a variety of attractions.

At Wilsden Gala there was a mythical and magical theme running through the parade on Sunday. The procession ended up at the village hall, where families were able to enjoy the entertainment on offer.
