How about this for a new twist on a traditional recipe? Yorkshire pudding with ice cream!

Chefs in West Yorkshire pubs are attempting to turn tradition on its head by pairing the humble pudding with an unlikely bedfellow.

From today, pubs up and down the country will be launching a limited edition Yorkshire Pudding ice cream in an attempt to pull in the punters during the summer months thanks to the creativity of kitchen staff at Toby Inns.

Now you can order a Yorkshire pudding filled with vanilla ice cream and a topping of either chocolate, strawberry or butterscotch sauce.

The staff at the Toby Carvery, on Fink Hill, Horsforth, came up with the idea. Now it is being trialled for a week at the chain’s pubs up and down the country to see if it’s a hit with customers.

Chef Stuart Harpham said: “It started off as a little snack because we all like Yorkshire puddings in the kitchen. We started to wonder what it would be like if we added ice cream and so we just experimented.

“We let our manager Natasha try it and she liked it.

“We’re always trying to push Yorkshire and I think we have done with this. You do try to be creative and this is.”

The chain’s assistant brand manager Emily Albanese said: “We’ve had some great feedback on our trial ice cream. It won’t be a permanent addition to our menu just yet, but it will be interesting to see how well it goes down with guests during this limited period.”

The Yorkshire pudding ice cream is available at the Horsforth carvery and others around the country from today until Saturday, July 10. For details of offers at the restaurant, go to facebook.com/tobycarvery.
