A farmer banned for life from keeping animals has landed himself a bigger Court bill after another failed appeal.

David Holmes, 53, told Bradford Crown Court yesterday: “I can’t believe it, it’s like a nightmare,” after a judge ordered him to stump up an extra £500 costs.

Holmes told Judge James Goss QC and two magistrates he would appeal.

Holmes lost his appeal against a sentence imposed by Bradford magistrates in November last year.

They ordered him to do 120 hours’ unpaid work and pay £4,548 costs after he was caught presenting cattle for sale at Skipton Auction Mart in breach of two disqualification orders.

Holmes, of Hen Holme Lane, Silsden, was seen in the ring at the mart, in Gargrave Road, Skipton, on November 19, 2008.

In April this year, he failed in a bid to have the lifetime ban lifted by District Judge Susan Bouch at Bingley.

Holmes received the first ban in 1999 after an inspection team found emaciated and filthy cattle at his farm.
