The Hut People (pictured) are coming to Otley.
A recent sell-out hit at this year’s Swaledale Festival, The Hut People are Sam Pirt on accordion and Gary Hammond, previously in The Beautiful South, playing percussion.
Sam has a wealth of experience in the folk world – he was going to folk festivals before he could walk and won a BBC folk award with the band 422.
Gary’s musical journey began in the jazz world and moved into the World Music sphere. On the way he took a detour and entered the pop world with The Beautiful South, a band he was with for 12 years, taking him to Hull, where he met Sam.
Initial jam sessions led them to produce and perform music influenced by World Music, from the Shetland Islands to Scandinavia, Louisiana and Brazil.
* Join them on a musical journey at Otley Courthouse on Saturday July, 10, at 8pm. For tickets, ring (01943) 467466.
