A Keighley-born marine salvage expert was commemorated in a procession through the town today.

Keith Jessop, who was 77, died last month at his home in France after a year-long battle with cancer.

His initial funeral service was held in France, soon after his death, and was attended by close family.

A black, horse-drawn carriage containing a coffin and followed on foot by Mr Jessop’s relatives, set off from Cliffe Castle yesterday. It headed down North Street, High Street and Church Street to Keighley Shared Church.

The carriage was preceded by piper Ken Pickles, who lives in Addingham but is originally from Riddlesden.

A service was delivered by the Reverend Peter Mott and attended by about 60 people.

Among the congregation was former Keighley MP Ann Cryer.

In 1981 Mr Jessop acquired £1.8 million after bringing up £44 million in gold from the sunken cruiser HMS Edinburgh.
