Two Bradford schoolgirls were last night being treated in hospitals for serious injuries following two separate car accidents.

Belle Vue Girls’ School, in Heaton, confirmed one of its pupils was involved in a collision with a car as she walked to school in Haworth Road, Heaton, yesterday.

Last night, a police spokesman said the 15-year-old girl was still being treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

She sustained what police described as “serious” injuries in the incident involving a Mercedes-Benz car at 8.10am. The vehicle was travelling along Haworth Road in the direction of Sandy Lane when the incident happened outside Heaton Primary School.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and an ambulance was called to take the injured teenager to hospital.

Police shut part of Haworth Road, to the junction with Toller Lane, to carry out investigations.

A spokesman for Belle Vue Girls’ said: “We can confirm she is a pupil at Belle Vue Girls’ School. At the moment we are awaiting further information about her condition.”

Anyone with any information about the incident should call Police Constable William Lawson, at Keighley Road Traffic Police, on (01535) 617059.

Meanwhile, a ten-year-old Bradford girl was seriously injured when the car she was in crashed at Laycock, near Keighley.

The girl was taken to Airedale General Hospital, Steeton, where she was said to be in a stable condition.

The incident occurred at around 4.35pm on Monday when the Vauxhall Astra, travelling towards Keighley, was involved in a collision with a van heading in the opposite direction, on Tarn Lane. The accident is thought to have taken place at a bend in the road.
