Controversial plans to build a sales office in the green belt at a Menston quarry could finally get approval tomorrow.

Clayax Yorkstone has applied to build the office, parking area and stores near the entrance of its Derry Hill site.

Previous plans were turned down last year and an appeal was dismissed in February.

But officers at Bradford Council have told the Area Planning Panel (Shipley) that adjustments to the proposal mean it can now be accepted – despite admitting it ‘constitutes inappropriate development in the green belt’.

A report to the panel goes on to say Clayax should be allowed to build after meeting very special circumstances to justify an exception to green belt policy.

Clayax plans to replace buildings on the site with larger ones, which have been described as more attractive.

Officers say because of these alterations to the plans, and the fact the business needs the new buildings to continue and thrive, the application should be allowed to go ahead.

The panel, which meets in Shipley Town Hall, has been asked to recommend the plan for approval to the Council’s regulatory and appeals committee, which will make a final decision.
