The man in charge of Bradford’s newest hotel says interest in the venue is high, including enquiries from coach operators for short-breaks and potential Christmas bookings.

The £20m Jurys Inn at the corner of Thornton Road and Godwin Street will open for business on July 22. It has 198 bedrooms, a restaurant and bar, conference rooms and a gym.

Around 70 new jobs have been created at the hotel. The management team is already in place and supervisory staff will come on board this week and other staff next week and undergo training in readiness for the opening day.

The firm was inundated with applicants for jobs at the hotel when it held interviews at the National Media Museum last month General manager Roger Clark-Coates said the mid-market Jurys would fill a gap in the market and he hoped it could complement the city’s other hotels.

He said: “I’ve been in touch with my counterparts at other hotels and I’m hopeful we can work together. For instance, we don’t have banqueting facilities and can direct enquiries to those that have. Equally, I’d hope that we’ll benefit from a co-operative approach between city centre hotels.”

Roger, who joined Jurys Inn in 2009 as general manager of its Leeds hotel, had worked for Jarvis Hotels since 1992, including as manager of the Bankfield hotel at Bingley.

The deputy general manager is Paul Clifford who joined Jurys Inn in 2004. He has worked in the hospitality industry from the age of 15.

Bradford-born Tammy Longley, who has 17 years hospitality experience, is sales manager, and Adelle Hodgson, also from Bradford, has added the new venue to her responsibilities as cluster HR manager.

The new hotel is part of the £45m Southgate complex that will also house the new head office of the Provident Financial Group from September..
