A Keighley student is hoping to scale the heights and raise thousands of pounds for Britain’s injured troops.

Adam Dufton, of Long Lee, Keighley, will be steadying his nerves before bungee-jumping off a 265ft high bridge to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Adam, 18, said he and about 30 other people will be taking part in the bungee jump off the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge on Sunday, July 4.

The Craven College student said he arranged it with friend Kieran Lee, a member of the Royal Signals, to help those injured in conflict.

He said: “We know people who have been injured, and Help for Heroes is probably the best way of helping them rehabilitate and go on to find new jobs. It is just something that is close to both our hearts.”

Adam said he was hoping to raise more than £7,000 from the bungee jump and about a further £5,000 from a parachute jump with the Red Devils in July next year. He said: “It’s so important for the soldiers to have something to come back to and help them through it.

“I will hopefully be going into the Royal Signals so I could still be frontline, so it could be something I need in the future.”

Bryn Parry, chief executive of Help for Heroes, said: “Help for Heroes is all about ‘doing your bit’, and Adam’s bungee jump is a wonderful example.
