About 100 people, including former world champions, were at the National Media Museum taking part in the UK qualifier for the Electronic Sports World Cup.

Gamers played video games Fifa10 and Quake Live over the weekend.

Competition organiser Jaffer Mir, managing director of Leeds-based Game Frontier, said: "It's been a pretty busy morning with registration. We've got some of the best national gamers for Fifa10 and Quake Live.

"People have come from around the country to be here. It is one of the competitions with the best reputation and credibility.

β€œIt’s been buzzing here today.”

The two players who win through to represent the UK in the grand finals will receive paid travel and accommodation to take on gamers from about 30 countries across the rest of the world.
