Artists were taking inspiration from their surroundings to create a piece of art on the pavement in Centenary Square as part of a special art event in Bradford city centre today.

The three-monthly Daytrippers Bradford events aim to reach out to people who may not have been to any of the arts venues in the city.

Artists and children spent this afternoon creating paths through the square through their drawings on the floor.

The day also included artists’ talks, workshops and walking tours of the city, taking in Kala Sangam and Bradford Cathedral.

Caroline Hick, a fellow in visual arts at Gallery II, University of Bradford, initiated the Daytripper project.

She said: “Bradford has so much to offer in terms of free daytime arts activities and this project aims to show the variety of different places and things to see and do.”

The event also marked the opening of Fabric’s Pop Up arts space, in Centenary Square.
