Three members of a family are taking part in a challenge involving sailing from Wales to the Scottish Highlands and climbing the highest peaks in three countries on the way.
Robert Ibberson, 73, of Rawdon, will be undertaking the gruelling challenge along with his stepsons, Andy Syme, 43, and Duncan Syme, 41, who both grew up in Horsforth, as well as fellow team members Ewart Baxter, 44, and Richard Smith, 23.
The men are raising money for the charity Breast Cancer Haven which supported Robert’s wife and Andy and Duncan’s mum, Gabrielle, when she was struck down with the disease.
As four of the team are, or were, in the armed forces they are also raising money for the charity Help for Heroes in the Three Peaks Yacht Race.
Andy said: “Our mum was supported by Haven during and after the diagnosis and treatment last year. She is now recovered and will be helping with the race by bringing bikes and supplies to Whitehaven during the race.”
