A Shipley father is taking up a dads challenge to climb the Yorkshire Three Peaks for special care baby charity Bliss.

David Bishop and a group of other dads will be covering 39km of the Yorkshire Dales in 12 hours on Father’s Day on Sunday. He was inspired to support Bliss after his son Harvey was born six weeks early in February 2006 weighing only 3lb 6oz.

After a two-week stay in hospital he was well enough to go home and is now a healthy and happy little boy.

While Harvey was in special care Mr Bishop said he found Bliss’s help invaluable. He said: “The information and support lines were invaluable to us and we know first hand that the work Bliss does is so important to the parents of premature, sick and small babies. Bliss is still there for me and I would like to think I will continue to support them for years to come.”

He hopes to raise more than £500 to help other babies and their families going through similar experiences.
