A vicar will be praying for victory tomorrow as his congregation prepares to watch the England match live in church.
A giant screen and loud speaker system has been installed at All Saints Church, Ilkley, which will open its doors at 6.30pm for the World Cup game against Algeria.
All England matches are being projected on to the seven-metre screen, with football fans encouraged to bring flags, food and drinks.
The Reverend Lee Townend, who donned an England shirt and face paint for the first game against the US, said he was looking forward to showing the matches.
“There will be no overt Christian input at all other than it being on church premises,” he said. “We just want to give out a message that the church has fun, enjoys partying and is normal.
“We think that encouraging community in a safe environment is something to be thankful for.
“When every bar in town is advertising that they are showing the World Cup why shouldn’t the church be part of that?”
