The Lord Mayor’s Carnival Parade will wind its way through Bradford city centre this weekend.

The streets will be awash with colour as hundreds of people parade through the city on Saturday.

This year the parade celebrates the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity through the image of the tiger.

More than 1,000 adults and children from across the district are expected to take part in the day’s carnival atmosphere as it makes its way through the city centre.

The parade sets off from Northgate at noon and will be stopping for musical and dance performances along Darley Street and Bank Street. For the first time the carnival parade will take place at the same time as the Lord Mayor’s Civic Parade.

A civic service takes place at Bradford Cathedral first attended by the Lord Mayor Peter Hill, along with councillors, senior council officers and representatives from partner organisations. Following the service this group will then parade to the city centre, where the two parades will join at Hustlergate, then continue along Tyrrel Street before ending in Centenary Square.

Coun Hill said: “This is a great city centre event and will be even more special this year by including the Civic Parade. I am particularly looking forward to taking part in what will be a fun event for the people of the city and district.”

Councillor the Reverend Paul Flowers, Bradford Council’s executive member for culture, tourism and sport, said: “This is always a momentous event in Bradford’s calendar and this year promises to be as vibrant as ever. I would encourage people to watch the parade as it makes its way through the streets.”
