Kimberley Walsh joined her former dance school teacher for a glamorous party celebrating the tenth anniversary of a charity helping people affected by breast cancer.

The Bradford singer accompanied Deana Morgan, proprietor of DM Academy in Shipley, on board luxury yacht the Seabourne Sojourn on the River Thames.

Kimberley is an ambassador for Breast Cancer Haven in Leeds, where her friend and former teacher Deana, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, has now completed a programme of therapy.

“It’s wonderful to celebrate its tenth anniversary, knowing it has helped so many people,” said Deana. “It was lovely spending social time with Kimberley, at such a special event.”

Kimberley, 28, has also been busy making a TV documentary looking into a problem she says she shares with many women – trying in vain to find a pair of jeans that fit properly.

“I find it hard to find jeans that look good on me,” she said. “They base a lot of designs on what they consider to be a perfectly-formed size six, so it’s not surprising it’s hard to find jeans to fit.”

In Kimberley Walsh: Blue Jean Girl, the singer-turned-presenter finds out about the multi-million pound jeans industry. She travelled to San Francisco, visiting the factory of jeans label Levi Strauss.

“They have jeans worth more than £200,000 locked up in a massive safe. It’s actually somebody’s job to look after the antique jeans found in mines,” she said.

In Los Angeles she met designers from J Brand and Rock And Republic. “They have people making every little rip and tear on the jeans by hand,” she said. “I don’t think anyone thinks about the journey jeans make before they buy them.

“The programme made me realise you have to try on quite a few pairs to find a pair that fits. Women are such different shapes and there are so many cuts and shapes of jeans now, you have to find designers that cut to your shape.”

While Kimberley performs in glamorous outfits with bandmates Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle, she’s not into dressing up off-stage.

“When you’re in that role you should be glamorous because that’s what people expect. But at home I dress casually.”

Girls Aloud are enjoying a break while the girls try other things. Kimberley is focusing on TV presenting. “I’m still learning but really enjoying it,” she said.

Having trained in singing, dancing and acting at DM Academy and Stage 84, she’s keen to return to acting.

“If I can find something that’s challenging but something I can do well I’d be interested,” said Kimberley. “I’d also consider a musical. It’ll take me back to where I started because I did a lot of that growing up.”

She revealed that Girls Aloud plan to record another album. “We’ll all bring something different back from the experiences we’ve had away from each other,” she said.
