A summit between senior Bradford College figures and three local councils has raised hopes of keeping adult education courses in Ilkley.
Three college officials, including principal Michele Sutton, held talks with Ilkley Parish Council, Burley Parish Council and Addingham Parish Council about the future of courses when Bradford College closes its Bridge House Centre this summer.
Students and Ilkley Parish Council had called for college heads to meet councillors, seeking assurances that Wharfedale would still have adult education.
Bridge House, on Bolton Bridge Road, Ilkley, is the last remaining college in the Ilkley area.
Venues are said to have been found for 19 courses – mostly the popular ‘leisure learning’ courses which do not lead to qualifications – and the college is pursuing venues for more courses.
Parish Council vice-chairman and chairman-elect, Councillor Brian Mann, said: “It’s looking pretty positive.”
Bradford College said they had been able to identify accommodation for 19 of the planned 25 classes so far.
