A couple who lived the high life at taxpayers’ expense are fighting a Court bid to recover more than £100,000 of their assets.

Nigel and Amanda Brearcliffe could lose their home in Micklethwaite Drive, Queensbury, Bradford, if a Proceeds of Crime Application succeeds.

Nigel Brearcliffe, 51, was jailed for eight months at Bradford Crown Court in December 2008.

He admitted possessing counterfeit clothing, money laundering over more than £90,000, and removing £50,000 from England to buy a house in Florida.

His wife Amanda, 45, an NHS nurse, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment suspended for 12 months. She was convicted of two charges of possessing criminal property and one of removing criminal property from the country.

Today Judge Jonathan Potter adjourned a confiscation hearing to determine how much the couple should repay to September 20.
