The Wiz is flying into Cleckheaton, courtesy of Buttershaw St Paul’s Amateur Operatic Dramatic Society.

Junior members are performing in the show, which runs at Cleckheaton Town Hall from tomorrow to Saturday.

Described as “a fun, funky, modern version of the film classic The Wizard of Oz”, it’s a stage version of the movie starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.

It’s another chance for young performers at Buttershaw St Paul’s to showcase their talents, following the society’s production of Summer Holiday at St George’s Hall earlier this year.

Several former members have turned professional in recent years; Vincent Franklin appeared in the film Confetti and Chris Fountain, who audiences may remember as Buttershaw’s Pinocchio when he was a schoolboy, starred in Hollyoaks and was runner-up on Dancing On Ice in 2008.

Jennifer Burrows played Cinderella in last year’s panto at Victoria Theatre in Halifax, and Tom Milner was in children’s TV show Woof.

Connor Philipson appeared alongside Rowan Atkinson in the West End production of Oliver! and Samuel Bottomley has just been cast as Daniel for Paddy Considine’s new movie Tyrannosaur.

Tickets for The Wiz are available by calling (01274) 416466, or from Cleckheaton Town Hall.
