A lottery grant of nearly £10,000 looks set to secure the success of a family fun day that will take place in an award-winning Bradford park.

The eagerly-anticipated People in the Park will be held at Lister Park, Manningham, on Saturday, May 8.

The Bradford Bronte Rotary Club, which organises the event, is celebrating an award of £9,690 from the Big Lottery Fund.

The cash boost means all money raised during the fun day will go to local charities, rather than covering the costs of organising the event.

It is likely that £840 of the money will be used to hire temporary toilets, £1,500 on security, £500 to hire a marquee, £500 on supplying trophies for the event’s team challenge and fun run and £6,000 on marketing and other expenses.

Andrew Idle, vice-president of Bradford Bronte Rotary Club, said: “This money will help us enormously.

“It means that every penny raised on the day will go to benefit local charities, rather than helping to pay for the organisation of the event.

“The club intends to use the lottery grant to help in providing the infrastructure for the event and publicising it.

“We think this is one of the biggest grants ever given to support a charity fundraising event, certainly it is in Yorkshire and Humberside.

“What’s brilliant is that it takes away all the worry of having to raise enough from the event to be able to put it on, before we can start raising money for our nominated charities – Bradford Young Carers and Bradford Cancer Support.

“We’d like to give the Lottery a very big vote of thanks for this award and assure them that it will be spent wisely, to generate much needed funds for these two worthy local causes.”

The event is set to include more than 50 stalls, free entertainment, a fun run, a performance of musical comedy Rockella and a team challenge in the style of television gameshow It’s a Knockout.

The cheque was presented to jubilant Rotary Club members by Mohammed Amran, from the Regional Lottery Board, at the Midland Hotel, Bradford.
