Up to 1,000 mods and rockers are to converge on a village – but there will be no trouble.

The set-tos of the 1960s are history for these enthusiasts who are joining forces in Sutton in Craven, near Skipton, for Manorlands, the Sue Ryder Home at Oxenhope, Keighley.

Harley Davidsons, customised choppers and trikes will be rumbling along next to Vespas and Lambrettes in a Parkers and Leathers ride-out day.

Bringing them all together is Vespa rider Steve Emmett, a member of Sutton Bulls Scooter Club, who hopes to raise £5,000 at the event on Sunday May 23.

The 47-year-old construction manager said: “Those old days are long gone.

“We all appreciate each other bikes. There’s great friendship – it’s all about enjoying riding two wheels. And, of course, this is for a good cause. Everybody is really enthusiastic.

“I think Manorlands has touched everyone in some way. My gran spent her last days there. It’s a fantastic place. If it’s a success then I’m considering doing another next year for the baby and children unit at Airedale General Hospital.” The day will start with a gathering of the bikes in the village at 12.30pm and then a five-mile run to Skipton, up the High Street, round the war memorial and then back down to Sutton.

Expected to join the run are Halifax-based Satan’s Slaves and Silsden’s Sewer Rats as well as members of the Yorkshire Scooter Alliance.

Bikers who attend the Harley Davidson gathering in Baildon are also expected. The rest of the day will involve entertainment at the village pubs, the Black Bull and Kings Arms.

The club is based at the Black Bull pub on Main Street, where committee member Les Steadman, once a rocker, is landlord and a founder member.

At 67, he is one of the oldest scooter enthusiasts in the Yorkshire region.
