The story of composer Charles Wesley unfolds at Otley Methodist Church this summer as Mark Topping returns after presenting An Evening With John Wesley, at the church in 2008.

On Saturday, September 11, Mark will talk about John’s younger brother, Charles, a prolific composer of more than 5,500 hymns, including Hark The Herald Angels Sing.

The presentation, My Own Familiar Friend, focuses on Charles Wesley the preacher, family man and poet. It throws light on his relationship with his brother, his devotion to his wife and children, his enthusiasm for Methodism and his fierce loyalty to the Church of England.

September’s event forms part of the Heritage Weekend at Otley Methodist Church with the theme Music at Otley Methodist Church: A History.

Tickets go on sale next Saturday, priced £6 for adults and £3 for children. Cheques should be made payable to Otley Methodist Church and sent, with an SAE, to An Evening With Charles Wesley, c/o 76 The Whartons, Otley, LS21 2BS.
