John Godber’s much-loved comedies Bouncers and Shakers are being given a cocktail-style remix.

Both plays, updated by Godber, are being staged by Holmfirth Turn Again Theatre, with director Beryl Dunnill at the helm.

Both shows have a cast of four actors. Three of them, including T&A deputy sports editor Neil Stacey, were in the theatre company’s production of Fawlty Towers. The Bouncers are Neil, Richard Skelton, Allan Sykes and Robert Knight.

The actors take on a variety of roles, from tough-talking doormen to lads about town, to giggly girls on a big night out. All human life is there, from Hooray Henrys to pogo-ing punks.

Shakers is set in a cocktail bar, where four waitresses reveal all about the punters’ hopes, dreams and disappointments. The girls provide service with a smile, while coping with their own problems.

Playing them are Loretta Skelton, Rebecca Parr, Lily Beardsell and Zoe Scott.

“Rehearsals are going well and the cast are enthusiastic,” says Beryl. “They’re still laughing – which is a good sign.”

Bouncers and Shakers run at Holmfirth Civic Hall from May 19 to 22, at 8pm. For tickets, ring (01484) 222444.
