Top DJs and artists are heading for Bradford to help wounded British troops.

More than 20 big names in the bassline scene will be taking part in what organisers say will be a huge music night in the city in June.

Club owner Derek Greenaway is allowing his Club Life venue in Westgate to be used for the benefit event in aid of wounded servicemen charity Help For Heroes.

The former soldier was approached by Bradford record producer and songwriter James Sammon.

Mr Sammon said: “I was sick of hearing about members of our armed forces being killed abroad or coming back wounded, so I went on Facebook and wrote that someone of my status should host a free club night and give all the money to a charity to help them.

“It just kicked off and I had more than 100 comments and various messages saying the idea was great and I should do something.”

One of those comments came from 18-year-old Bayleigh Clancy, of Thornton, whose boyfriend Jordan Williams is about to be sent out to Afghanistan.

Miss Clancy said: “I wanted to help. I’ve been into bassline for about four years now and think it’s a brilliant way to raise money.

“We’ve got loads of our lads and lasses from Bradford out there right now and we need to let them know their home city is thinking about them.” Jill Allison, of Help For Heroes, said: “It’s wonderful that young people are doing this for us. More and more people of that age are now realising that it’s soldiers their own age who are fighting out there and then coming back needing our help.”

Mr Greenaway said: “We’re going full-out on this. You won’t see a line-up like this anywhere else. It’s massive.”

Bassline Pressure is at Club Life, Westgate, on Saturday, June 19, from 11pm to 7am. Entry is by minimum donation to the charity.
