It’s blooming beautiful in Shipley this spring.

Yorkshire in Bloom judges have been in town visiting projects at Shipley Library, Northcliffe Allotments and Victoria Mills.

Yvonne Crossley, Shipley town centre manager, said: “They looked at areas of horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation.”

John Grice’s topiary tea pot and tea cup, in Bradford Road, was an attraction on the judge’s tour.

It is a work of art he has cultivated and nurtured for 15 years.

Mr Grice said he was inspired to sculpt the crockery because before it was created people often had difficulty finding his house.

Mr Grice used traditional pruning skills to create the eye-catching piece which was dependant on patience and a steady hand.
