It is 25 years since Tommy Cooper died on stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End.

Now actor Clive Mantle is paying his own tribute to the much-loved comic in a new show coming to Bradford next month.

His Jus’ Like That show promises an “evening of non-stop entertainment featuring all the best gags and magic tricks that Tommy became famous for.”

At 6ft 4in, with size 13 feet, Clive, star of Casualty, Holby City and The Vicar Of Dibley, conjures up Tommy’s gangling bulk with all the familiar trademarks – the fez, the laugh, the jokes and the bad magic.

A devout Cooper fan, Clive has been working with Geoffrey Durham (aka The Great Soprendo) on perfecting Tommy’s magic tricks.

Before your very eyes you will see pigeons appear, bottles disappear and hear all the jokes that Tommy made famous.

Jokes like: “A woman went to the doctor and said, ‘I’ve got a bad back’. The doctor said, ‘It’s old age’.

She said, ‘I want a second opinion.’ He said, ‘You’re ugly as well’.”

Clive joins the team who first put the show on in the West End. Like Tommy himself, writer John Fisher and Geoffrey Durham are both Gold Star members of the Magic Circle.

l Jus’ Like That! is at the Alhambra on Wednesday, May 5. For tickets ring (01274) 432000.
